One More Week of Noel Nonsense
Christmas Drama at Murphys Creek Theatre
Break out the tinsel, dust off the ornaments and head to the Black Bart Playhouse to see “Every Christmas Story Ever Told,” a holiday journey through, well, every holiday tale you can imagine.
Instead of performing Charles Dickens’ BHC (Beloved Holiday Classic) for the umpteenth time, three Murphys Creek Theatre actors (Sean M. Lewis, Allison Blackwell and Stephen Daly) decide to present a complete collection of Christmas classics – abridged. The madcap romp includes hilarious renditions of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” along with Christmas traditions from around the world, seasonal icons from ancient times and topical pop culture … and of course, every carol ever sung.
Blackwell has been acting with the company in its Shakespearean productions for the past two years. She holds a BFA in acting performance from Tulane University of New Orleans and an associate degree in American Sign Language and deaf studies from Ohlone College. She has been a Berkeley Poetry Slam finalist in ’07, ’08 and ’09 and is making recent explorations into songwriting and dance.
Daly is appearing in his second Murphys Creek Theatre production at the Black Bart Playhouse. He recently worked at Sierra Repertory Theatre in its production of “No Sex Please, We’re British.” He has also worked locally at Stage 3 and MCT at the Stevenot amphitheatre. Stephen has been in productions at the Magic Theatre, Center Stage, Shotgun Players and DEO Ireland in the Bay Area. He received his MFA from Pennsylvania State University
Lewis was born and raised in the Bay Area, where his acting career began with shows such as “Bad Habits” by Terrence McNally, “Bye Bye Birdie” by Michael Stewart and “Harvey.” He was most recently in “A Skull in Connemara” by Martin McDonough and Satori Jazz Company’s “Retrospective.” Some of his favorite roles include Gratiano in William Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” and Roy Caulder in “Laundry and Bourbon/Lone Star.”
Join Allison, Sean and Stephen as they explore Christmas – from ridiculous and over-the-top commercialism to the true meaning of the holiday spirit from now through December 20. The show plays at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 19, with 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays. The theater is at 580 Algiers St., Murphys.
