Man on the Snow is Greg Kristapovich
What do YOU do when YOU’RE snowed in?
(Asked in Sonora, at 2,700 feet, right after the historic December 7th snowstorm)
“I like to read the Bible and thank God for giving me a home where I can stay warm; and all the other blessings that I have. I cuddle with my cat, Yoda and read books. I think this snow is beautiful! I love looking at the snow, and the silence of snow, but I don’t like driving in it and don’t want to get in a wreck. I anticipated a snowstorm because I got news from different sources that said we were going to have this – but this is more than I expected!” – Kimberly Bohn Wood, Sonora, (psychologist)
“I sled and play in the snow with my friends. Today we went to pick up my cousin, Brooke, and take her to our house. Now we’re going to play in the snow together. I like this snow! It’s fun and you don’t have to go to school! (Respondent’s mother, Karen added, “She was born in Truckee in a blizzard so she’s loving the snow! I think she popped out lovin’ it!”) – Kara Wessel, Sonora, (6th grade student)
“I catch up on baking. My husband, Dennis, was snowed in with me. We don’t watch TV as much as we used to, so we kind of got caught a little by surprise! I can’t remember how long it’s been since a snowstorm like this! And we’ve never been in our sub-division and not being able to get in or out. That bothers me. (Crystal Falls Drive was closed due to numerous snow-related accidents. Phoenix Lake Road was closed during renovation of the Sullivan Creek Bridge.) – However, we got to catch up on some prayer time. We’re just sitting around enjoying the beauty that God has given us!” – Kathy Lafayette, Sonora, (retired ophthalmological receptionist)
“The best thing I can do is make a big pot of stew, or two pots: one for the homeless, and one for myself. If I had (electrical) power I’d be searching the internet, right now, for a warmer place to go – like Arizona or Hawaii! (He chuckles). Did I anticipate this snowstorm? Heavens no! And it’s deep, cold, wet, miserable! If we had power I’d probably watch TV or read books and magazines; things I haven’t had much chance to do.” (Power was out in Sonora Meadows for approximately 16 hours!) – Rick Bacon, Sonora, (realtor)
“I play board games, like Sorry, or Jenga with my kids; try to have fun with my kids! I have a three year old and a one year old. I try to keep them entertained. I like to read import car magazines. I play guitar, too. This snowstorm was bad! Cold and bad! I was expecting snow, but not this much snow! Not around here, at least; maybe up in Twain Harte. But this is a LOT of snow! I came from Los Angeles a year ago, and I’ve never been snowed in before! It’s not fun.” – Miguel Marenco, Sonora, (casino employee)
