Choral Group Spreads Holiday Cheer
Mountain Melody Women’s Chorus of Calaveras Presents Holiday Concerts
Next weekend enjoy the lushly blended vocals of seasoned songbirds as they weave and wrap harmonies around winter-themed melodies. Under the direction of Julia Shelby and accompanied by Marjorie-Biagi Castro, the chorus offers two intimate community performances to usher in the holidays with family and friends. Enjoy refreshments after each show. Mountain Melody started with seven members about five years ago and has grown and flourished under the guidance of Julia Shelby who was a member of the bay area Women’s Peninsula Chorus for many years. Each season the choir attracts new singers from varied walks of life. All share the gift of song and bring something unique to the table, creating a warm and diverse sound – sometimes soft and soothing, sometime rousing and a saucy. As the choir expands, so do the expenses. This season they are making the concerts FUNDRAISERS to help purchase new music, risers and to cover other expenses. You will soon be able to visit Mountain Melody online at www.mountainmelody.org to find out about upcoming concerts; to book the choir for your event; to audition to become a member; or to make a donation.
The first concert will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 12 at the Community Covenant Church at 261 Treat Ave. in San Andreas. This is a free concert, but donations are greatly appreciated. On Sunday, December 13 at 4 p.m., the women will perform at the First Congregational Church at 509 Algiers Street in Murphys. Tickets: $10 Adults; $5 Youth under 18.
