Baked Apple Jewels
(Some parent participation required)
Served hot or cold these apples are perfect for dessert or your lunch box.
You will need:
4 large tart unpeeled eating apples
1/4cup red cinnamon candies
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon chopped nuts (optional)
Half and half (optional)
1. Ask an adult to help you core the apples and peel a strip of skin around the top of each apple.
2. Place each apple in an individual microwave dish.
3. Spoon candies and brown sugar in the center of each apple and press down firmly.
4. Place the dishes in the center of the microwave.
5. Microwave uncovered on HIGH 5 to 10 minutes.
6. Rotate the dishes 1/2 turn after 3 minutes, until apples are tender when poked with a knife.
7. Spoon the syrup in the dishes over the apples and sprinkle with nuts. Serve warm or cold with half and half.
