Dancing with Tuolumne County Stars 2009 by Joyce Ames
On Saturday, August 29th at 6:30 p.m., the Oak Pavilion at Columbia College will be transformed into a glamorous Hollywood-like ballroom setting. Thirteen couples will be performing in a ballroom dance competition – all for local charities – in the 2009 Dancing With Tuolumne County Stars fundraiser.
Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. with tickets being sold at the door. Bleacher seats are $25, reserved seats are $30, and tables for 8 are $500 (that includes appetizers, beverage, and two glasses of wine). Kiwanis is selling food and beverages during the event. Wine will be sold by local wineries, and dessert will be served at intermission to all ticket holders. Tickets are also available by calling Shana Monaco, the event coordinator, at 768-1898. “We are so excited,” said Shana, “as there isn’t a bad seat in the house, plus we will have several huge screens showing all the action on the dance floor.” Each couple will dance for the charity of their choice and will dance the cha cha or foxtrot (a Ginger Rogers and Fred Astair style dance). They will each have a ballot box in which audience members may vote with money for the dancers and their charity. These amazing couples (some with no or very little dance experience) have been devoting a tremendous amount of time and energy learning the dance, creating a routine, selecting their costumes and practicing, practicing, and practicing. Dance instruction for the competitors has been provided by professionally certified instructors, Jolene Alquist and Ian Nandhra, who run Steps to Dance Studio www.stepstodance.com. There will be also be exhibition dancing. For more information regarding Dancing with Tuolumne County Stars go to: www.dwtcs.com,
