Mi Wuk Library Closes by Wayne Kirkbride
Joan Henderson brings in the Mi Wuk “OPEN” sign for one last time on June 26, as County budget cuts close the branch down as a library. Ms. Henderson is one of many library employees that are being laid off. A root beer social for patrons, friends and supporters was held in the library, which will be turned into a community center in the near future. Although the county library branch will cease to function, the community center, in addition to many adult and children programs, will continue as a private library. Volunteers have also stepped up to continue through July the Mi Wuk Summer Reading Program along with the following summer children’s craft programs:
Wednesday, July 8th at 3 p.m.: Butterfly Man (open to all, including adults)
Wednesday, July 15th at 3 p.m. (sign up required): Paint a Rock Creature/Make a Bug (limit 16 kids/ages 3 and up)
Wednesday, July 22nd at 3 p.m. (sign up required): Clay Creations (limit 16 kids/ages 3 and up)
Wednesday, July 29th at 3 p.m. (sign up required): Farewell Summer Make a Robot or Spaceman and Ice Cream Social (open to all).
