“Twain Harte Nights” Heat Up! Story and photos by Greg Krisapovich
Everyone Agrees: It’s a Cool Event! The motorcycles roared into the little hamlet in the mountains, and everybody had a good old time! It was the second Twain Harte Nights event this season, and each season gets more exciting! At the most recent event, June 11th, local motorcycle clubs put their machines on display; and with Stevie Ray Vaughn music reverberating all around, everybody mingled, enjoyed a sumptuous table of hors d’oeuvres, got a chance to meet a well-known local artist, and indulged in some serious cycle talk. Just a few feet down the road, Villa D’Oro offered free wine tasting and food samples: phyllo cups filled with a Salmon mousse, topped with parsley! (phyllo is flaky, tissue-thin layers of pastry used in baked appetizers). Then, just a few more feet away, The Rock Pub and Restaurant offered an overflowing spread of melons and grapes, along with wine tasting! The featured performers at The Rock was a captivating duo called Amnesia (Gary Linehan and wife, Elena). She sang oldies but goodies by Joan Baez, The Beatles, and The Beach Boys, among others, while Gary backed her up on acoustic guitar. Elena did a fine impersonation of Patsy Cline on “Crazy” and Gary sounded JUST LIKE Bob Dylan with his rendition of “Mr. Tambourine Man”! “We play all the songs you thought you forgot! But we play unforgettable music!” exclaimed Elena. Next Twain Harte Nights event is July 9 and features Horseless Carriages and Antique Autos! The August 13th show will spotlight Classic Cars and Trucks! “Twain Harte Nights has been a big success this year! There has been a great turnout!” exclaimed Andie Dolan, who along with Babs Desrosiers helps organize the events, which are sponsored by the Twain Harte Business Association. All events are free and start at 6 p.m. If you’d like to enter your car, truck or motorcycle in a Twain Harte Nights event, please call Andie or Babs at (209) 586-1976.
