Man on the Street by Greg Kristapovich
“Do YOU think Twain Harte should have wine tasting rooms like Murphys?”
(asked in Twain Harte)
“I want wine tasting in Twain Harte! We own the premier location in town (Caron’s Nature’s Nook), behind the flagpole, at the Arch. We put a lot of money into this business and want it to be a success. Our success is simply a matter of numbers: The more people who come to town, the more people enter our gift shop, and the more people buy our products. It is obvious that anything that brings additional customers or businesses to town is a benefit to our store, as well as the Twain Harte Business Community! Wine tasting in Twain Harte would be a HUGE draw to our town and the surrounding business community!” – Greg Caron, business owner, (Twain Harte)
“My husband, Norman, is a wine drinker and he’d be very happy to have a wine tasting place! And I’d go at it a little bit, but Vodka’s my specialty. Sure, why not?! Wine tasting is better than a lot of things going on in this world today, that’s for sure! You have to be honest, don’t you?” – Liz Beyer, Twain Harte, (retired teacher)
“I think we should have wine tasting rooms like Murphys, but I think they should have, years ago, let Ironstone Vineyards – who wanted to come in here at the time. But the county dragged its feet, and Ironstone ended up going to Murphys. The tax advantages, now, would have been just tremendous (for Twain Harte); and the tourists; and it would have been a destination point, with the concerts, and all. And I’d enjoy wine tasting – in moderation. You got to be very careful on that.” – Larry Novak, Twain Harte, (semi-retired data processor)
“Yes, I do! A lot of people these days are ‘into’ wine and there are a lot of very good local vineyards! And I think they need a ‘showcase’ other than just Murphys! So, I think it would be a great idea to bring people up here, and, just expand their territory! Twain Harte would be a great place! We have enough ‘summer people’ coming up here, and I think they’d enjoy the heck out of it! And I love wine!” – Mary Wilson, Cedar Ridge, (business owner – parking lot sweeping)
“Only if they serve beer, as well. If my wife, Pam went, she’d drink the wine. I’d drink the beer.” – Paul Emery, Long Barn, (retired project manager)
