Scholarship Fund Allows Students to See Todd Schroeder
On Monday, February 2, pop/rock/country singer Todd Schroeder will be performing at Sonora High School Auditorium, and thanks to the “Danny Campos Scholarship Fund”, 12 lucky students will be able to attend the show free of charge. The scholarship fund, created by Danny’s son, Dale, has allowed students to witness great music for the last five years.
“When my dad passed away in 2004, I wanted to do something that showed his love for people and my love for kids and tie it together with Todd Schroder,” said Dale, who has been working as a Teacher’s Aide at the Black Oak Elementary and Twain Harte Schools for ten years. “My dad loved Todd Schroeder…he just loved him and really enjoyed the shows. So I had this idea to start a scholarship fund in my dad’s name to honor him, and soon donations started coming in. I was very serious about it and once I got it going, it started to snowball.”
The “Danny Campos Scholarship Fund” is made up of voluntary contributions by local school districts, businesses or individuals to provide children with the experience of live musical performances to sponsor and heighten their sense of their own value. Todd Schroeder’s concerts provide a positive musical experience for all children who attend, and it is a vehicle which encourages them to invest in themselves and find their power to create success and happiness. These concerts help kids get in touch with their value, abilities and potential and it helps them to see that they can make their dreams come true. Thanks to the donations, Dale has been able to purchase tickets to the concerts, enabling students to attend the shows for free. These students are able to witness the performance from a special seating area from where they can really enjoy the concert.
“This year we could only bring 15, but usually we have about 20 kids and five adults,” said Dale. “For this concert I’m trying to get ahold of Todd Schroeder to get pictures and autographs for the kids. He is a great performer and has great songs. He usually brings the same group with him every year but he also brings a surprise guest. The students always have a great time. During the first year the scholarship fund started a student told me that he was inspired by the concert and he wanted to play guitar. Another student couldn’t stop telling me “thank you” throughout the show and she gave me a big hug. It was so awesome!”
Although this will be the last year for the concerts, Dale is planning on continuing with the “Danny Campos Scholarship Fund.”
“This is the last year for the concerts, but I am going to try to find some other avenues,” said Dale. “It’s too bad that it’s the last year of this because there have been a lot of good memories. But I have been doing this for five years and I am not planning on stopping. I am going to continue the scholarship fund and it is going to be a different window of opportunity. I had to finish the last one with Todd, and then see who wants to help me out. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on events please call me. That would be great!”
Dale would like to thank all of his helpers that have helped him this year: Jon Sepulveda, Michelle Primrose, Rose Clamp, Rachel Swietzer, Berry Bynum, Diane Campos and Debbie Wilson.
