The cozy town of Twain Harte is quickly becoming a popular destination for those in search of cute and creative Mother Lode shops, and the town’s latest addition, Sierra Sirens Salon and Boutique, is no exception to the rule.
Sierra Sirens officially opened their doors on Labor Day weekend, but on October 14th they celebrated their grand opening with a Twain Harte Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony (the first the community had experienced in eight years) – and word of the salon/boutique rapidly began to resonate throughout the foothills, producing a steady stream of customers to the quaint mountain community. For the past four months Melissa Hurst, Lorra Burns and Megan Burns, the happy and hip hairstylists that make up the Sierra Sirens team, have been building a solid base of satisfied customers and hope to continue their service for years to come.

“We are a young and fun crew and have wonderful customer service,” said Melissa Hurst, owner and hairstylist. “This has been a dream of mine and I want to make all of my customers happy. We offer all hair services including cuts, color (including REDKEN) perms, chemical straitenings, extensions and even facial waxing. It’s definitely an experience to come in here.”
Beautifully decorated for the holiday season, window shoppers can’t help but be drawn into the welcoming atmosphere of the charming shop. Stepping inside, it is easy to see why Sierra Sirens was recently named the Best Tuolumne County Remodel of the Month. Hurst Construction, owned by Melissa’s husband, Chris, is responsible for this impressive remodel (for more information visit www.zeropowerhouse.com or call 743-2638). With the sun pouring in through the windows, the polished wood floors and peaceful pastel walls create a cheery environment for those shopping or getting their hair done. It is safe to say that this stylish salon and boutique brings a much needed city flair to the mountain community.

“We want to bring the city experience up here,” said Melissa. “People don’t have to go down to the city because they can get what they want right here. In fact a lot of our clientele are from the Bay Area and they come up and shop here when they are visiting. People can still shop local and get the latest fashions and the newest hairstyles and colors.”
Sierra Sirens offers a full line of Pureology, S Factor and Logics hair products as well as a wide variety of popular name brand clothing.
Danielle Green, wearing a Green Apple bamboo yoga outfit purchased from the boutique, admires Sierra Sirens latest fashions.
“We offer fun and fashionable clothing and accessories for all ages and for any budget,” said Melissa. “We carry classy casual to evening party dresses and undergarments. We also offer dresses for high school Winter Formal dances. A lot of the clothes I order are made in the U.S. and I get a lot of it from Los Angeles.”
Some of these brands are: Jamie Kreitman, Weston Wear, Scrapbook Originals, Green Apple, Aussie Dogs, Charlotte, Olive Jane, Nick and Mo, Pathway, Theme, Green Dragon, JWLA and Big Buddha wallets and purses. They also feature the popular Australian sheepskin Koolaburra Boots.
“Many of these brands are made of natural and organic fabrics,” said Melissa. “Some, like the Green Apple brand, are even made out of bamboo.”

“I love these organic bamboo outfits,” said Danielle Green, sporting a Green Apple yoga outfit. Danielle, owner of Greenway: Nutritional Consulting and Personal Training, is Melissa’s personal trainer and common visitor of the boutique.
“I’m here to keep the staff strong and healthy,” she said as she browsed the shop for new apparel. “This brand shows that you care about health, fitness and the environment – feeling good from the inside out. I get all my workout clothing from her.”

The boutique also sells jewelry, including Paula Carvallio’s custom jewelry, as well as odds and ends such as the popular Klean Kanteens.
“There are plenty of stocking stuffers to be found here,” said Lorra. “And we wrap gifts for the customers.”
“Gift certificates are also available,” said Melissa. “You can buy gift certificates from the Twain Harte Chamber of Commerce for Christmas presents to shop in town and we also have gift certificates at the store. It’s a perfect gift for the holidays.”
Sierra Sirens is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but is planning on being open until 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday during the holiday. For those who work during regular business hours and can’t stop by the store, Sierra Sirens is very flexible with their hours and is always willing to cater to the customer.

“We do shopping and hair by appointment for morning and evening hours as well as on Sunday and Monday,” said Lorra.
“We definitely do private shopping,” agreed Melissa. “We treat our customers like the movie stars and will open the shop just for them. I know there are men out there who want to shop with their wives, but they work too late and can’t do it. Yet with us, all they have to do is call and we will open the shop for them and they can come down together. We will schedule a time that will work for them.”
Sierra Sirens is also available to open their doors for parties and get-togethers.
Big Buddha purses and wallets are some of the boutiques most popular items.
“We are also planning on doing events like a girl’s night out, where women can pre-book a party here,” explained Melissa. “So instead of going out to a restaurant or a bar, a group of ladies can come here. It will be a custom event and we will do whatever they want. We will have food and have it all set up for them and they can shop and get pampered.”
Located in the heart of Twain Harte on the main street (18752 Cedar Drive), Sierra Sirens is a central location for a great day in the mountain community. It is across the street from the China House and the Sportsman Coffee Shop and next door to the Walk in Closet and El Jardin Restaurant.
“People don’t realize how much Twain Harte has to offer!” said Melissa. “There is so much shopping up here. It’s a whole day experience coming to Twain Harte. You don’t have to drive far and it’s a little village allowing you to practically walk everywhere you need to go. You can go grocery shopping, get a nice outfit, get your hair done and then enjoy a nice meal at one of the many restaurants. The town offers a whole day of pampering. There is such variety! So come and enjoy Twain Harte and shop local! It’s a wonderful experience.”
