Man on the Street by Greg Kristapovich
“Are YOU going to be watching the Super Bowl?”
(asked in Angels Camp)
“ Yes I am. I’ll root, probably for Arizona (Cardinals). I really don’t like Pittsburg (Steelers). I like Arizona a little better. Don’t really have anything against either team. Just kinda rooting for Arizona. (Receiver) Larry Fitzgerald Anquan Boldin, Steve Breaston, they’re all good. They’re all wide receivers. Tampa Bay (Buccaneers) has been my favorite team, but they did not make it this year. They fell apart. And they’re retarded and fired their coach. That coach, John Grudden, was really good. Someone’s gonna pick him up real fast. I’ll probably watch Super Bowl at home. Probably just sit back and watch the game, drink a couple beers.”
– Brandon Dillashaw, Angels Camp, (laborer)
“Yes, I am going to watch the Super Bowl! I’m cheering for the Steelers this year! My team, Dallas, didn’t make it this year, but maybe next year. The reason they didn’t make it was because it was too cold in Pittsburg for Romo to throw the ball. I watched the whole game. I felt really sorry for him. He’s used to Texas weather. Hopefully next year they’ll win. Please let ‘em win! ‘Cause Pittsburg, this is their seventh Super Bowl! If I don’t have to work, I will be at home watching the game with my family and making some lunch. If not, I’ll be here at La Hacienda watching it on the T.V.s here! But I am going to ask for the day off, so I can watch it at home. I have seven T.V.s at home! There’s a T.V. in every room! “ – Rosie Patina, Vallecito, (restaurant manager)
“Yes, I am going to. I’ll be rooting for the (Arizona) Cardinals, of course; because they have never won the Super Bowl, and never been to the Super Bowl, yet! I like Kurt Warner, the quarterback. He used to be with the Rams. He’s an old dog, performing better than the young bucks. I like the Miami Dolphins, but they haven’t made it in a long, long time. I’ll probably watch the game at home. A lot of times, when you’re at a big party you miss stuff. It gets very distracting and noisy; and you get talking and you miss something. We’ll be at home and just have some snacks. Last year I had a big party. This year it’ll probably be just the wife and me, maybe some friends.”
– Mark Carter, Angels Camp, (propane company manager)
“No. We are no longer watching T.V. We gave up T.V. Super Bowl is widely a television thing, so we’re not into watching it. Haven’t followed football this year at all. We had followed football a little bit, but not really interested now. Too many other things going on in our life, and too busy. We play with our animals. We have horses. So that takes up quite a bit of our time. Not too many people would give up T.V., but it’s a good thing, to not be sacrificing yourself to sittin’ in front of the television. Actually it’s been two years since we’ve watched television. ‘Course we have DVDs and videos if we want to see a movie. We rent movies. But, in particular, we don’t sit and waste our time watching a television for four or eight hours a day.” – Ray Estrada, Mountain Ranch, (inspector)
“Yes! I’ll be rooting for the Arizona Cardinals! They haven’t been in the playoffs for, like, sixty years! And they’re the underdogs. I like the quarterback, Kurt Warner. My favorite team has been the Oakland Raiders. Now, you need to say no more. (She laughs.) But there’s hope, once they get rid of all the coaches, and get new ones, it’ll all be good. They’re working on it! But this is going to be a good game (at Super Bowl)! If I’m not working, hopefully I’ll be at home watching it! A Super Bowl party at home! “
