“It was an amazing evening!” exclaimed Sue Moore, Youth Programs Manager for Tuolumne County 4-H. Indeed it was! The 36th Annual Community Dinner and Decorated 4-H Cake Auction, held in the Muir Building at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora, January 17th, put the spotlight on the culinary creativity of the 4-H youth – and raised a pretty good sum of money for the organization, to boot! 44 meticulously decorated cakes were auctioned off, one by one; and when it was all over, the 4-H kitty had $9,365 more in it, to help fund their projects – which include sending the kids to camp and sending team leaders to leadership camp. It also helped cover the costs of staging the event. But right before the cake auction, folks enjoyed a delicious tri-tip dinner. “Pre-sale tickets were down a bit this year, but more people ended up getting their tickets at the door.” Revealed Ron Hamilton, 4-H Council President. And Sue Moore adds, “The number of cakes auctioned was down, but the prices paid for them was up! The buyers were very generous! We realized that we are in the middle of a recession, and money is tight; but this is such a worthwhile project to support.” The highest bid was placed by Kevin Day from the Black Oak Casino. He paid $525 for a cake called “Catapillar”, created by 5th-grader Madeline Barnes. Madeline, who is with the Tuolumne Pioneers, won a Blue Ribbon. Praise must also go to 6th grader Danny Hamilton of the Tuolumne Pioneers, who sold the most tickets to the event. His efforts pulled in $686 more for 4-H! The total figures for the evening are still being tallied, but it appears the event was a complete success!

“Penguin Party” by 9th-grader Stephanie Hankins of the 4-H Trailblazers! Her awards included: Blue Ribbon; as well as “Most Creative” and Gold Medal, in the Senior division!
A cake called “Sushi”, created by 7th-grader Abigail Bolter of the 4-H Clover Leafs. It won a Red Ribbon, and an award for “Most Creative Cake” in the Intermediate division!
“Showmanship” by 4th-grader Teresa Job of the 4-H Mountain Rangers! A Silver Medal winner in the Junior division!

Nice article. I think that it is like painting and decorating a house. You need colors that compliment each others, decorations that match with the theme and that fit together, in the end create a place that you can live at and be at ease and happy.
