This was no ordinary fashion show! However, it was right for the time! Showcasing apparel that was actually purchased at local thrift shops and consignment stores, the Sonora Emblem Club #124 proved that it is entirely possible to dress like a model at very little cost! The fashion show, called “Fashion on a Dime!” was presented before a packed banquet hall at the Sonora Elks Lodge, November 22nd. The stunning and exquisite fashions ensembles were put together using clothing items (some purchased for as little as $1.25 each!) and accessories found at shops such as Kendra’s, Good Stuff, Reruns, Christian Heights Thrift Shop, Red Church Thrift Shop, Tradewinds, The Humane Society Thrift Shop, Interfaith and the Salvation Army! “It went really well! It was a complete success!” exclaimed event coordinator, Marge Nath. The Sonora Emblem Club, the female counterpart of the Elks Club, was chartered on May 4, 1947 and is involved in community service, with emphasis on the homeless, aged, handicapped, veterans, youth, drug awareness, and literacy programs. For information on how to join the Emblem Club, you may call Laurel Utecht at 532-5033.

“On their way to a Red Hat convention in Las Vegas, are members of the Golden Girls Red Hat Club.” Janet Harte, left and Sally Santana found their fashions by visiting all of the area’s thrift shops!
“It looks like we’re gonna have a pajama party!” declared narrator Laurel Utecht. These alluring fashions were found at Interfaith! Modeling from left to right are: Marge Nath, Cathy Maxam and Debbie Cushman.
A gourmet dinner of pork loin in wine sauce was enjoyed by all! The décor was interesting: table centerpieces were “fashioned” out of clothing! Tables were classified by types of apparel. Diners were called to the serving line, table by table, for example: “Blouse table come and get it! Coat table, it’s now your turn!……” Very creative, indeed!
