What you Need to Know About DEPRESSION
Down in the dumps, under the weather, or whatever you call it, depression could be what you’re experiencing. Depression is real. Most of us have felt some level of depression in our life. Depression can be seen at any age and can result from a variety of reasons.
Depression can stem from various reasons: situational/loss-grief, chemical imbalance, concurrent with physical or medical illness and it can be triggered during the Holidays. Signs of depression to look for are: withdrawal from others, sadness and crying, unable to do things you used to do, unmotivated, any changes in eating and sleeping habits and more serious signs are the giving away of one’s things and talking of death and dying. Also, depression can occur at any age. Whether it is with a pre-schooler, school age child, teenager, adult or senior citizen – depression doesn’t pick a certain age to occur.
If you feel signs of depression and feel you cannot get out, get some help. Some have said it feels like they are in “a black hole”. Depending on your need for help it may be brief or more ongoing. It depends on why you have depression, how long you have been experiencing it and what type of treatment is needed. Don’t feel embarrassed to get help. Remember, depression is one of the most common problems that people seek help for.
Often, it is hard for those who are depressed to get their own help and to have the emotional ability to do so. If you have a loved one who is depressed assist them to get some professional help for an evaluation and needed treatment.
