Squatting on Pot
Lincoln, NE. – If you’re in an apartment illegally and growing pot, don’t call the police when the apartment manager tries to evict you. This squatter, who apparently didn’t know that squatting was illegal (or growing pot for that matter), called police to tell them that someone was trying to break into ‘his’ apartment. When police arrived, they found that the ‘someone’ who was ‘trying to break in’ to the apartment was the apartment manager. The manager was going to inspect the room, which was supposed to be vacant, only to find the locks changed. Once the manager explained the situation to the police, the squatter was arrested for illegally changing the locks on the door and living illegally in the apartment. So basically, the squatter saved the police a phone call…and as an added bonus the police found more than three pounds of marijuana, equipment used to grow marijuana and nearly $3,500 in cash in the apartment. The man is currently being held in the local jail. That is why you never squat with pot!
The Family that’s Tased Together Stays Together
Brentwood, CA – Most people know not to interfere with a police officer’s work, but those who don’t have to learn the lesson the hard way. After a shooting on Saturday night that hospitalized a teen, Brentwood Police tasered some of the victim’s family who were interfering with assisting officers. When police arrived and started assisting the victim, the victim’s family and friends gathered at the scene and began interfering in the assisting officers’ work. The officers then ordered the family members to step aside and when they did not comply, police responded by tasing some of the victim’s family, including his father and sister. “As the brother was getting tased the dad approached asked them to stop tasing his son, then they started tasing the dad,” said a witness. “At that time there were three cops tasing two people who were already on the floor.” The police took several individuals into custody for assaulting and resisting officers, while the victim was mediflighted to a hospital. Hopefully the family will be released from jail by the time the boy gets out of the hospital.
Don’t Drink and Hug
Iowa City, IA – Everyone could use a hug! Well, not everyone…especially if the person receiving the hug is a police officer and the person giving the hug is a drunken college student. A 21-year old Iowa man who thought a police officer just “needed a hug” faces several charges including assault on a peace officer and public intoxication. According to police records, the man ran up to the officer and stuck out his arms. The officer told him to “get away,” but he didn’t take the hint and embraced the officer. When the officer told the ‘hugger’ to put his hands behind his head, he refused..and was then handcuffed. Have you ever tried to give a hug while handcuffed? It’s really, really hard.
