Man on the Street with Greg Kristapovich
“No, they didn’t. My favorite team is the San Diego Padres. I was born and raised in San Diego, and, you know, I’m just still a Padre fan at heart. They do pretty well; they just don’t always make it to the playoffs. Right now, I’d kinda go for Tampa Bay Rays, myself. I lived there, too, for a little while. I’ll definitely root for Tampa Bay.” – Shelly Rores, Soulsbyville (bakery manager)
“No, they did not. They’re the Oakland A’s. They just didn’t win enough games. They were in third place all year; pretty much. But now, I think its gonna be the Philadelphia Phillies versus the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. I think the Red Sox are gonna win. They’re just too good of a team.” – Andy Payne, Sugar Pine (deli clerk)
“No, The San Francisco Giants didn’t. But I like the Giants ‘cause my dad brought me to the Giants games. He had them on the radio all the time. And I got to see Willie Mays, Willie McCovey and the old Giants play when I was little kid. I was hooked. I lived in Stockton. But this year, the Giants did bad – really bad. Why? They invested all their money in Barry Bonds, who brought in a lot of fans; but they didn’t spend the money on the support players, so they never had a good team around him. Now they don’t even have him. Now they’re struggling and they got a bunch of old guys that are at the tail end of their careers. You love ‘em, but they’re just not that good anymore. So, management needs to rebuild. At this point, I’ll pick Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa Bay all the way! They’ve never made the playoffs. They’ve been one of the worst teams in the league. Lat year they finished in last place. Now, they’re playing to get into the World Series!” – John Poletti, Twain Harte (marketing)
“Yes! I’m a native Bostonian and a member of the Red Sox Nation – and my favorite team made it! And by God, they damn well better make it into the World Series! I was back in Boston in 2004 when they won the World Series for the first time in 86 years! I felt incredible! And then they said I’d never live to see another one – and they won in 2007! I’d like to see them do it in 2008, to prove they can do it twice, back-to-back!” – Betty Cordoza, Sonora (retired educator)
“Actually, no, they did not. But I am ecstatic at the fact that the Dodgers are losing. Anybody that beats the Dodgers is number one in my book. I do like the Giants, for sure. Basically, I want Tampa Bay Rays to go to the World Series. So they would be my ideal team at this point. But as long as the Phillies beat the Dodgers, I’ll be totally content.” – Kristin Lansdon, Sonora (beer tender)
