Man on the Street with Greg Kristapovich
“When should you start your Christmas shopping?” (asked in Jamestown)
“I feel, personally: never before Halloween – unless you find a good sale. Maybe just something you know somebody wants, and it’s special and it’s a good deal; and now’s the time to do it. But I don’t want to see one Christmas decoration before Halloween – or I’m out of there!” – Leslie West, Jamestown, (restaurant owner)
“Never! I don’t celebrate Christmas because I’m one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The celebration of Christmas – which coincidentally coincides with the winter solstice – is simply a pagan festival that honors gods other than the God of the Bible, Jehovah. So we want to worship our deity the pure way that is prescribed in the Bible; and we ignore these other practices of other religions.” – Jeff Gray, Sonora, (waiter)
“December the 24th! Actually, I don’t do Christmas shopping; my wife Lilian does. And she’s been Christmas shopping since last Christmas! When she finds something she wants, she buys it, regardless of what time of year it is – and saves it.” – Jack Graham, Sonora, (fingerprint supervisor)
“January – right after Christmas! ‘Cause then it doesn’t hit you all at once. But I never get it done, so…I get it done, like, the day before Christmas. And, we have four birthdays right before Christmas: me, my husband, Brian, and both of our boys, Jacob and Colton – all exactly one week apart! We’re all Sagittarians – and then we got Christmas! So it’s kinda hard to get Christmas shopping done, until I get past the birthdays!” – Jeannine Daniel, Jamestown, (salon stylist/owner)
“The day after Christmas! Whenever you think about somebody, and happen to see something along the way – pick it up! And then just save it. If I see something possibly that I know a friend collects, then yes, I’ll pick it up and save it. Sometimes I can’t save it; I give it to ‘em anyway, even before Christmas!” –Marva Elliott, Sonora, (mini-mart customer service)

I agree with Jeff Gay the Jehovah Witless on this one. Christmas is actually a holiday secretly designed to honor the Canaanite god named Bel. Bel was the phallic god worshipped back around 1500 B.C. via the erection of poles throughout the land of Canaan. The shaved-headed Priests who served at the feast celebrations held around those phallic poles were generally effeminate looking 40 year old males with low IQs. Thus, the reasons that no Jehovah Witlesses would be caught dead celebrating Xmas today.

WHY-Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t do Christmas
I was born Jehovah’s Witness 1957 3rd generation.Yes,we didn’t celebrate Christmas.
The reason JW’s don’t do Christmas is because their Watchtower leaders say so,the holiday has pagan aspects to it and by rejecting it the Watchtower appears “pure”.
This “demand for purity” is one of the 8 marks of a cult. Now the Watchtower can use this purity diversion to distract from their own immoral practices.

I agree with the JWs on this one also.
I was raised in Christendom by a minister Dad. He has 12-13 degrees and also knew holidays were pagan as most church people do. He said we were not doing the holidays for religious reasons, but just to give candy and treats to the kids. That always bothered me.
Dec. 25 is not only the birthday of the pagan Baals, but also Mithras and most ancient male deities especially sun gods…..Easter is also the name of a pagan goddess, rabbits and eggs were her fertility symbols and customs.
The Christmas tree is condemned in the Bible in Jeremiah 10 (very old custom).
I’m now the only JW in my family though my family knows most of the same things we do…such as Jesus is truly God’s Son, not a diety with a split personality.
Holidays were illegal for the first 130 years of US history. Then not added in for another hundred or so years and put it, not by churches, but by businessmen to generate income: first greeting cards about 1825 or so, trees and ornaments about 1840. Any Bible or secular encyclopedia shows these things.
It is not the Watchtower, it is the BIBLE that says we must obey the things written in it. Hebrews 5:8, 9, Philippians 1:29, Matthew 7:21-23.
It doesn’t matter how many great works you do if you chose to disobey even one of God’s commands. Hebrews 10:26, 29. You would be guilty of unpardonable sin.
Best wishes,
Debbie

“Demand for purity?” Hummmm….. I’ve been a JW for over 20 years and never…ever…have seen, heard or felt this ‘demand’. Trying to do things the way that Christ Jesus did is a ‘demand for purity’? The watchtower isn’t perfect, and has never claimed to be. Yes, we try to represent the perfect God, Jehovah, but we are still inperfect humans…just trying to live our lives in accordance with Jehovah’s will. I wonder, do you know the defination of Apostacy?
