Oven Baked Meatballs with Dipping Sauce (some parental guidance required)
Meatballs are a universal food found in some form in almost every culture – even cultures where meat is not eaten. This recipe will also freeze for a ready dinner or after school snack. You can change the dipping sauce to reflect the menu of the evening. Try a tomato sauce for Italian, a brown gravy and sour cream sauce for Swedish, a Sweet and Sour for Asian and a barbeque sauce for western cuisine.
You will need:
1-1/4 pound ground beef
½ cup dry breadcrumbs
1 egg
½ teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
Read all the directions and wash your hands well.
1. Ask an adult to help you pre-heat the oven to 375°.
2. Tear off a piece of aluminum foil the length of a cookie sheet and place it on the sheet. Spray lightly with cooking spray.
3. Fold up the edges of the foil all around. This will prevent the meat juices from dripping all over the oven.
4. In a medium size bowl combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion powder, salt and pepper.
5. With your clean hands squish it all together until it is well mixed.
6. Form the meat mixture into balls which are larger than JAX balls and smaller than ping-pong balls.
7. Place the meatballs on the baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
Serve with your favorite dipping sauces in small ramekins.
