Authors to Shine at Rotary Event
Twain Harte Rotary is looking for four or five published local authors to participate in a panel discussion at their upcoming Author Signed Book Auction to be held on October 18th.
“Last year’s event was a real success,” said organizer BJ Sibley. “This year we hope the Auction will be even bigger and better.”
“We are hoping local authors will volunteer their time and share their experiences withour audience.”
Many authors of note have already donated to the auction, including Isabelle Allende, James Rollins and Nelson DeMille.
“The authors we have contacted have been incredibly generous,” Sibley said. “They’ve not only sent volumes for our Auction, but have sent their best wishes for the success of our event as well.”
Last year a book by television host and garden designer P. Allen Smith was auctioned for more than $150 and another book by Smith is included in this year’s event.
The Author Signed Book Auction will benefit Rotary’s scholarship program for local high school graduates.
“Through our fundraising efforts we were able to grant over $10,000 in scholarships to Summerville High graduates this past June,” said TH Rotary President Eric Carlson. He added that individual Rotarians and friends of Rotary also donated scholarship monies.
Authors who are interested in being panel members at the Auction are encouraged to call Eric and Judy Carlson at 586-2108.
The Author Signed Book Auction is set for October 18, 2008 at Twain Harte Golf Club at 2 p.m. The afternoon will include food and prizes. Tickets, at $15, will be available in September from Twain Harte Rotary members.
