Greg’s Happenings
Happy Birthday Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones! Mick was born on July 26, 1943 – making him 65! And he’s still rockin’! You know, it’s kind of inspiring to see senior citizens rock! It makes me feel young watching Mick prance around all over the state at his age! If they ever wanted to develop a superior energy drink, all they need to do is analyze Mick’s bloodstream, isolate the blood cells, plasma and enzymes; reproduce it in the lab – and bottle it! Cause whatever he’s got going through his veins is most certainly the fountain of youth!
A reader has reminded me to finish up the AARP’s eight tips for living to 100. Actually, these “secrets to a long life” are practiced by natives on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. They often live to 100! So we’re at tip #6: “Keep hard at work. Centenarians seem to have enjoyed physical work all their life. They find joy in everyday physical chores.” I guess I’d better keep deliverin’ the SMT! That’s good physical work; and if it’ll help me live to 100, that’s cool!
Hey, please come a little closer. I have a little secret I want to tell you: The Doobie Brothers are going to play the Classic Rock stage at the Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock, Wednesday night, July 30th! I’m telling you, because you’re my favorite reader, and I want you to get there early for a good seat. And, don’t tell anybody else, O.K.?
Oh, my personal guru, Mahat just stopped by. He also dispenses health and nutrition advice. He suggested that if I wanted to live to 100, I should drink more tea. I’m an avowed coffee addict. But, he’s probably right; I probably should drink more tea. So, I’m going to visit Columbia Kates Tea House in a couple days, partake in some tea, meditate a bit, and tell you how my visit went.
Check out these pictures of Mountain Aire! That’s Patrick Simmons of the Doobie Brothers kicking out the jams, wailing away on his guitar! And look, up on the roof: it must bet he Angels Camp/Mountain Aire Rockettes! These pics were taken by the late Steve Grandstaff and remind us of the glory days at the Calaveras Fairgrounds (circa 1978)!
Hey! Look up there on the roof! It’s the Mountain Aire Rockettes!
There’s a lot happenin’ this weekend! Movies in the Pines in Twain Harte’s Eproson Park presents “Beetlejuice” on July 25 (free admission) and shown on the BIG screen! (August 1st, they’ll show the “Wizard of Oz”)…Saturday night, also in Eproson Park, Home Grown will play light rock (again free admission!) –and that’ll be a groovy way to end the Saturday session of the Art and Wine Festival!! (The fest continues on Sunday). Saturday night, in Copperopolis is Micki and Larry’s Sports Pub Special Karaoke night (always the last Saturday of the month). And the weekend goes out with a bang at Ironstone Amphitheatre in Murphys Sunday night where George Thorogood headlines an incredible blues-rock triple bill!
There’s so much happening in the Mother Lode, it can make your head spin! And that’s cool!
